Former Neighbours star Melissa Bell wears her soap wedding for real ceremony

Actress Melissa Bell, who soap fans know well from her time in Neighbours as Lucy Robinson, has got married — and those that watched the soap may well recognise the dress she wore for her big day.

Bell married her long-term partner Grant Thompson in a ceremony that took place on the Gold Coast last month, and, to make it extra special, they were married just before she celebrated her 50^th birthday.

The dress she wore is actually one that gave Lucy luck in the show, as it's the same gown Bell wore for the 35^thanniversary celebrations when Lucy married her former lover, Mark Gottlieb.

“At the end of filming they gave it to me,” Bell told New Idea of the dress and the generous production team at Neighbours, adding: “I was like, 'Wow a part of Australian TV history!' It's very over-the-top, but I think that's me.”

This is Bell's second marriage after she tragically lost her first husband in 2015. The star first joined Neighbours in 1991 and was the third actress to play the part of Lucy Robinson, following Kylie Flinker and Sasha Close.

She left the following year but returned in 1995 where she was romantically linked with future husband Mark before departing once again.

Lucy returned to the soap multiple times since then, including the big 35^thanniversary, and she was there for the final episodes that aired in July.

Some of her biggest stories on the show included falling for her half-brother, Glen, in scenes that were edited out of existence when the episodes first aired over here on BBC One. She also had a child with Chris Pappas, had a stalker, and made the switch from being a successful model to a powerful businesswoman who even outranked her brother, Paul, at Lassiters!

Neighbours has now come to an end, but catch-up episodes are available via My 5 (UK) and 10 Play (Australia).
