Amadeus, Amadeus

Music history has never seen a genius like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart before or since. Having died young, he had nonetheless published a gigantic oeuvre, which is now being honoured by an illustrious group of artists on the occasion of his birthday

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart may no longer need to be introduced, but his music cannot be heard often enough. And so, on the occasion of his birthday in January, several high-calibre artists join forces to congratulate and pay homage to the Salzburg genius composer. The highlight is a historically informed performance of the original Munich version of his opera »Idomeneo« under the expert direction of René Jacobs. Kit Armstrong has put together his own orchestra of friends and companions for his programme full of pianistic gems, while Mitsuko Uchida reunites with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra to perform two more piano concertos. Audience favourite Jordi Savall and his ensembles dedicate themselves to the Great Mass in C minor and Robin Ticciati and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe accompany the wonderful countertenor Iestyn Davies through some of the most beautiful arias from operas by Mozart and George Frideric Handel. The second part of the concert features the elegant and virtuosic »Haffner Symphony«.
