festival: Reflektor Sophie Hunger

With her musical versatility, Sophie Hunger is one of Europe’s most interesting singer-songwriters. Almost single-handedly, she has created her very own pop idiom with her singing in Schwyzerdütsch (Swiss German). However, she never wanted to remain a purely Swiss music phenomenon. Hunger’s childhood was already international, and so she also tapped into her other mother tongues musically as a matter of course. Whether in English, German or French – she integrates the character of a language into her unmistakable Sophie Hunger sound. With breathtaking intensity, she achieves the rare unity of music and lyricism, which she lives out in all possible forms and instrumentations: from rough indie rock sounds, fine chamber music, piano ballads, electro-pop or large orchestral arrangements.
