festival: Reflektor Sophie Hunger

A long weekend with the unique singer-songwriter – with band, orchestra, film, literature and many guests
With her musical versatility, Sophie Hunger is one of Europe’s most interesting singer-songwriters. Almost single-handedly, she has created her very own pop idiom with her singing in Schwyzerdütsch (Swiss German). However, she never wanted to remain a purely Swiss music phenomenon. Hunger’s childhood was already international, and so she also tapped into her other mother tongues musically as a matter of course. Whether in English, German or French – she integrates the character of a language into her unmistakable Sophie Hunger sound. With breathtaking intensity, she achieves the rare unity of music and lyricism, which she lives out in all possible forms and instrumentations: from rough indie rock sounds, fine chamber music, piano ballads, electro-pop or large orchestral arrangements. At her own curated »Reflektor« festival, Sophie Hunger appears at the Elbphilharmonie in a variety of dimensions for a weekend – from rough indie-rock sounds and the finest chamber music to piano songs, electro-pop and large orchestral arrangements.
Hunger opens her »Reflektor« festival with the latter, accompanied by the fantastic Metropole Orkest. The weekend’s programme also includes readings from her debut novel »Walzer für Niemand«, which will be published in March 2025, and a film with a Hunger soundtrack. Sophie Hunger has invited an illustrious group of fellow singer-songwriters and musical friends as guests: Patrick Watson searches for orientation in a surreal world, Soap&Skin breathes new life into old hits, Nichtseattle and La Force set personal stories to music. Dino Brandão, Erik Truffaz, Julian Sartorius and Hinako Omori are musicians who Sophie knows from making music together.
