In January 2022, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) adopted its Guidelines 01/2022 on data subject rights – Right of access. The Guidelines play an important role for clinical trials sponsors as they provide practical advice on how data controllers should address data subjects’ (patients) requests to exercise the right of access provided under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). As an independent, non-profit cancer research organisation, the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) has been active in sharing its decades of experience in the field.
