- Liz Elting cofounded a translation company in 1992 with Phil Shawe, her one-time fiance, in a college dorm room.
- TransPerfect generated $1.2 billion in 2023 revenues from some 6,000 clients, including Google, Microsoft and various U.S. governmental agencies.
- The couple broke up in 1997 but remained co-CEOs. The partnership later soured, and they sued each other in 2014.
- They battled for years as a court-appointed broker solicited bids.
- In February 2018, Elting complied with a court decision that determined she had to sell her half of TransPerfect to Shawe for $385 million.
