Behar, a comedian and original member of Barbara Walters‘ coffee klatsch on ABC’s The View, will fill in for a vacationing Eliot Spitzer next week in a special week of shows titled Joy Behar: One Week Only *Until the Fall. (Spitzer inherited the 8 p.m. time slot from Keith Olbermann.) And come September, Behar will launch her own nightly show at 6 p.m.

It will include a regular rotating round table of politicos, comedians and journalists. Behar’s round table – along with the title and exact premiere date – will be announced later this summer. Behar joined HLN in 2009 to host a general news and talk program. But as the network moved more toward crime and justice stories, including the Casey Anthony and Conrad Murray trials, Behar’s show became increasingly out of place on HLN.
Behar marks the third host Current has added to its roster since the network parted ways with Olbermann in March. California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom launched an interview show last month.
“Joy Behar is a beloved veteran television personality with her finger on the pulse of what viewers care about,” said Current TV chairman Al Gore in a statement. “Millions of Americans tune in daily to hear her take on the issues along with her inimitable style. We are honored that Current TV will be Joy’s new primetime home.”
