Longtime Adam Sandler collaborator Tim Herlihy has been tapped to write Pixels, the adaptation of the popular Internet short, by Sandler’s Happy Madison and Columbia.
Pixels was one of the Internet shorts that garnered Hollywood buzz earlier in the year (The Gift and Panic Attack! were a couple of the other ones) and depicted 1980s video game characters attacking New York City.
Happy Madison approached the short’s writer-director, Patrick Jean, when it saw the potential to make a Ghostbusters-style action comedy in which characters come out of a video game to wreak havoc in the real world.
Herlihy worked with Sandler on Saturday Night Live, then moved with the comedian to movies, working on numerous Sandler comedies ranging from Billy Madison to The Wedding Singer to the latest one, Just Go With It.
Herlihy is repped by WME and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
Here’s the short, for those who haven’t seen it…
