Former Lost showrunner Carlton Cuse has a high profile new gig, as he joins the A&E project, Bates Motel – a TV prequel to Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, revealing Cuse, who ran Lost with Damon Lindelof, will executive produce and -- should the project be picked up as an ongoing series -- oversee the writing on Bates Motel, which focuses on a young Norman Bates and his relationship with his mother.
The Hollywood Reporter amusingly says Bates Motel has been described as a cross between Twin Peaks and Smallville – presumably because the Bates Motel (and family) gives it a twisted setting, while it's also an origin story, albeit about how Norman is forged into a serial killer with a split personality.

Kerry Ehrin (Friday Night Lights, Parenthood) is also joining Bates Motel as a writer. The plan is for a six-episode "event" first season for Bates Motel – The Reporter says A&E is hoping to use Bates Motel to give them the kind of attention AMC got for The Walking Dead (which also launched with six episodes) via a notable genre series that generates buzz.
