Tulsa King: Terence Winter will be stepping down as showrunner before season 2
As the Sylvester Stallone drama Tulsa King gets renewed for a second season at Paramount+, Deadline has learned that the series showrunner for the first season, Terence Winter, will not be continuing in his position going forward. He will remain on board as executive producer, but Winter will now focus on other projects, which will include a streaming series with Martin Scorsese, whom he often collaborates with. As well as a limited series about the 1986 New York Mets, which is revealed to have been a passion project for the writer/producer.
Tulsa King is one of many shows that come from Taylor Sheridan, who has created such hits for Paramount+ like Yellowstone, 1923, and Mayor of Kingstown. It is reported that Winter had decided to depart just ahead of season 2 due to creative differences. Deadline says it was apparent in an earlier interview that Sheridan and Winter had conflicting visions...

‘Tulsa King’ Showrunner Terence Winter Steps Down, Search for Replacement Underway
“Tulsa King” co-creator Terence Winter has stepped down as showrunner of the hit Paramount+ crime drama, TheWrap has confirmed. But he’ll remain credited as an executive producer on the show, starring Sylvester Stallone, and the search for a new showrunner is in progress.
Winter’s departure was due to a combination of unspecified creative differences and desire to focus on other projects, including an in-development streaming series with Martin Scorsese.
Co-created by Winter and “Yellowstone” mastermind Taylor Sheridan, “Tulsa King” follows mafia underboss Dwight Mancini (Stallone), who did 25 years in prison and loyally kept his mouth shut about his mob family. Fresh out of prison, he’s sent to Oklahoma to establish new businesses for the family, but ends up forming his own crew instead.

Could ‘Tulsa King’ Get the ‘Yellowstone’ Treatment? ‘Absolutely,’ Paramount+ Programming Chief Says
Paramount+ has not been shy about going all in on Taylor Sheridan and his ability to build a streaming universe out of “Yellowstone.” But why stop there? Sheridan’s “Tulsa King,” with Sylvester Stallone, has also been a big hit for the streamer, and Tanya Giles, chief programming officer, streaming with Paramount Global, told IndieWire that anything is possible.
“The short answer is absolutely. We’re open to the possibilities, everything,” Giles said between panels at Paramount+’s presentation at TCA on January 9. “What we love to do is take this valuable IP and turn anything into a franchise because we believe there’s a world of storytelling to be told that the audience can enjoy, and they love the characters. Let’s see where it can take us.”
To date, “Yellowstone” has been spun off as both “1883” with Sam Elliott and the current “1923” with Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford.

James Gandolfini Went The Extra Mile For Jamie-Lynn Sigler On The Set Of The Sopranos
James Gandolfini is best known for playing New Jersey mobster Tony Soprano on the hit HBO series "The Sopranos," but his real-life personality couldn't have been more different from the brutal mafioso. Gandolfini shared a few problems with his fictional counterpart, including alcohol abuse and a bad temper, but no one is perfect, and his castmates have shared many stories of his generosity and warmth.
One of the best and most important episodes in the series, "College," takes place in the first season, and doubles as the perfect introduction to what the series would become. Tony takes his daughter Meadow (Jamie-Lynn Sigler) on a tour of colleges in Maine but runs across a former associate who went into witness protection, forcing him to quickly learn to balance his work life and family life in a disturbing new way. Gandolfini was great at bringing a warmth to Tony that's evident in...

The Sopranos' Signature Look Came From Ignoring The Rules Of TV
David Chase's "The Sopranos" absolutely blew audiences' minds when it hit the small screen in 1999. The series followed New Jersey mafioso Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) and his associates as they tried to reconcile their old-world mafia lifestyle with suburban life at the turn of the millennium. The series was often at its best when it put mundanity and mobster business in contrast, and few episodes did it better than "College" from season 1. In the episode, Tony's daughter Meadow (Jamie-Lynn Sigler) wants to go look at colleges and her dear old dad takes her. She asks him point blank about his mob life, and he's surprisingly honest with her, though he turns around and lies to her when he's forced to kill a former associate during their little Maine road trip. The episode beautifully sets up Tony's double life, and the cinematography in the episode ended up setting a visual...

The Sopranos Crew Thought The Show Might Be 'Too Good' To Succeed
I think we can all agree that "The Sopranos" is one of the best television series of all time — cast and crew included. Everyone that worked on the show loved it from the very beginning. It had a much more cinematic edge than other shows on television at the time, giving it a unique and undeniable flair. The show was so good that it had no equal, so there was no telling whether or not it would be a hit. In fact, some people on the production team thought that the show was so excellent that it would fly over the audience's heads. It was so fun to make and had so much promise that the series creators worried it might be too good to last. Luckily, they couldn't have been more wrong.
"The Sopranos" first aired in 1999 at a time when network television was extremely formulaic, but series creator...

Review: Paramount loves Taylor Sheridan. With Yellowstone consistently ranking as one of the most watched shows on television, Sheridan’s creative output has expanded with sequels, prequels, and spin-offs of the Montana-set drama along with separate projects like Mayor of Kingstown starring Jeremy Renner. Sheridan’s latest project is Tulsa King, a unique twist on gangster stories led by Sylvester Stallone in his first small-screen leading role. With a heavy dose of inspiration from...

Dads rejoice! There's a new show where an older guy wanders around complaining about stuff and punching anyone who gets in his way! And that guy is played by none other than Sylvester Stallone. Stallone is the titular "Tulsa King," a mobster who gets out of jail and gets relocated to Oklahoma. The series is the latest from Taylor Sheridan, the man responsible for the ubiquitous "Yellowstone" franchise. "Tulsa King" will likely appeal to the same dads who love all-things "Yellowstone," especially since the thrust of the entire show seems to be Stallone's annoyance at all things modern.
His character, Dwight "The General" Manfredi, has been in prison for 25 years. As a result, the outside world is a mystery to him. He carries cash instead of a credit card! He doesn't have a cell phone! He doesn't understand why a coffee shop gives him a paper cup instead of one made of glass!

He’s a well-read man who enjoys the classics. He hangs “with fellas who run a weed store.” In other words, Sylvester Stallone’s Dwight “The General” Manfredi from Paramount+’s upcoming Tulsa King is a “different animal from what you would normally see in a gangster film.”

The Make-Or-Break Moment For Tony's Character Came Early In The Sopranos
For the 20th anniversary of "The Sopranos," creator David Chase talked about the times he clashed with HBO. The network did not like the title "The Sopranos" because it caused some confusion over what kind of show it would be, but what troubled them the most was the fifth episode in the first season, "College," which critics now regard as one of the greatest in both the series and television history. While taking Meadow on college tours, Tony spots a rat who entered witness protection, Fabian "Febby" Petrulio, and brutally strangles him. "College" is a crucial narrative turning point because it is the first time the audience witnesses Tony kill someone. Chase describes HBO's initial reaction to the scene:
"I got a call from Chris Albrecht, who ran HBO, screaming about, 'How could you do this?! You've created one of the most dynamic characters of the past 20 years, and you're just going to ruin him.

Stuck in a new location with zero existing connections and with no support from his Mafia family, Manfredi slowly builds a crew of unlikely allies to establish his own criminal empire.
In addition to Stallone, “Tulsa King” also stars Andrea Savage, Martin Starr, Max Casella, Domenick Lombardozzi, Vincent Piazza, Jay Will, A.C. Peterson and Garrett Hedlund. Terence Winter serves as showrunner and writer of the series, executive producing with Sheridan, Stallone, David C. Glasser,...

In the riveting first teaser for the upcoming Paramount+ series “Tulsa King,” Sylvester Stallone channels Henry Hill in “Goodfellas” and Tommy Vercetti in “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City” — with a helping of “Get Carter” — as Dwight “The General” Manfredi, an aging mafioso ordered to set up shop in, you guessed it, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
“When I was 17, I wanted to be a gangster,” Manfredi narrates. “I married this life, and now, after keeping my mouth shut, I’m gonna see if it married me back.”
Did it? Seems unlikely. Fresh out of prison after a 25-year sentence, Manfredi is sent by his criminal bosses to move to Tulsa where, per the official logline, he realizes “that his mob family may not have his best interests in mind.” So instead, he carves out an empire of his own in the buckle of the Bible belt, with a new crew of his own as well.
