Born in Budapest and educated in America. Began as a child actor for Pathé Films at the age of ten, then worked as a comedy editor for Educational Pictures Studio in the early 1920's. Began directing in 1925, and, after stints at MGM and Paramount, was appointed head of Columbia's short subjects department in 1933. He eventually turned out more than 500 short features. White is best remembered as the main director of Three Stooges comedies, from 1945 to 1957.
On November 19, 1967, he married Judith Pivar, a former wife of Ben Pivar.
