People across the community have an opportunity to elect a Councillor who will bring new energy and a strong voice for working people in Scarborough. With Kevin, people in Scarborough Southwest can elect a progressive candidate with a vision of a better future.

Like my community of Etobicoke–Lakeshore, Scarborough Southwest will see immense change in the upcoming years as our city continues to grow. I believe Kevin has the vision and experience, and is the best person to be its next City Councillor.

The last several years have been extremely difficult for the TTC. The pandemic was a difficult time for public transit, but chronic underfunding and weak leadership made it even worse. In Mayor Olivia Chow, we have a strong advocate for public transit and an ally to workers – but she needs supporters on City Council to restore and improve service so that we can rebuild trust with TTC riders. We are endorsing Kevin Rupasinghe for City Council because he is the only candidate in Scarborough Southwest with a vision for the future of the TTC and how we can build a sustainable city where everyone has access to affordable, frequent, and reliable public transit.

I’ve seen Kevin deliver impressive results for neighbourhoods across Toronto. He will work tirelessly to improve public transit, make our streets safer, and our communities more liveable. Kevin is the leader Scarborough needs right now.

Kevin is the leader Scarborough Southwest needs right now. His commitment to engaging residents, investing in Toronto suburbs, and responsibly handling the City’s finances is exactly why I look forward to working with him at City Hall.

I’ve known Kevin Rupasinghe for years and his actions have never ceased to amaze me. He’s smart, passionate, optimistic and highly engaged. He understands the issues that need to be addressed in Toronto, and he works tirelessly towards common sense solutions. Scarborough Southwest would be lucky to have Kevin as their City Councillor.

Like a mantra, we hear SSW by-election candidates promise their unwavering commitment to constituents. Kevin’s solid track record of community involvement in the year between elections — when candidates were not electioneering — demonstrates decisively that Kevin’s promise of commitment is genuine. And I can attest to this personally. Without hesitation, Kevin agreed to speak at a “save the greenbelt” rally I organized last December.

He energized the Scarborough crowd by championing affordable housing through intensification and not by building on the farmland, forests, wetlands and watersheds in the greenbelt. A few months later, Kevin appeared at my door promoting Danforth-Kingston4All, a local group he helped to launch that aims to transform our arterial streets into safe, accessible and lively community destinations. And those are just my own experiences with Kevin. SSW residents have told me about many other projects and advocacy efforts he tackled during that year between elections.

Based on his impressive history of commitment, I have every reason to believe Kevin’s by-election promise. I’m confident he will represent SSW actively, tenaciously and responsibly into the future.

Kevin has been a highly effective advocate for safe and vibrant streets. He has a bold vision for the future of our city. I am excited to see the leadership and energy he will bring to City Hall.
