NEW ORLEANS, La. (KCTV) - Two years ago, the Chiefs were staring down the barrel of a 10-point halftime deficit against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Chiefs trailed 24-14 after two quarters, but then they did what champions do – dug deep – and rallied to win the game.

Harrison Butker remembers the game fondly but says the team was trying to figure out what was going wrong at halftime.

“I just remember that game, the halftimes are twice as long, sitting in that locker room, a lot of it just complete silence, realizing that this was the biggest stage and we’re not winning the game,” said Harrison Butker, who made the game-winning field goal that night.

Then with 11 seconds left in regulation, with the game tied at 35, Butker walked out on the field. He lined up a 27-yard field goal with the weight of the Lombardi Trophy on his shoulders. With a make, the Chiefs would likely win the Super Bowl. With a miss, anything could happen.

The ball was snapped, the hold was good, and the kick was true – right down the middle. Butker gave the Chiefs a lead they would not relinquish.

“Thankfully, we were able to come through and end the game with a ‘W,’” Butker said when asked about his memories of Super Bowl LVII. “It came down to a field goal late in the game, as well. Hopefully, we want to do the same thing and get the win this Sunday.”

Oddsmakers say the Chiefs are 1-point favorites against the Eagles, meaning a missed FG or extra point could swing the game. That type of pressure pushes Butker to greatness.

“It has helped me prepare even more for every game that I’ve been in to know that every time I step on the field, I’m going to need to deliver and that is going to be maybe the difference between winning or losing,” said Butker.

In November, the 29-year-old had surgery on his left knee and had to miss four games. Butker says he has no limitations.

“I had to get a little knee clean up towards the end of the season,” he said. “Thankfully, it’s back to 100%. I feel like my normal self.”

Now, the three-time Super Bowl champion wants another ring. He isn’t sweating the possibility of being asked to win the game with his foot.

“That pressure kick is just like the kicks you had in warmups,” Butker said of how he prepares for the biggest moments. “It’s the same. Even though it feels and looks different, you’ve been there before, you’ve had success, and you just have to rely on your training to make the kick.”

Butker also owns the NFL record for the longest field goal made in Super Bowl history at 57 yards.
