Oliver Passingham

'Leslie Shane'. Danish version. 

Oliver Passingham was a British comic artist born in 1925 in Romford, Essex. He attended the Hornsey School of Art in London, served in the Navy and worked in animation from 1947 to 1949. His first comic strip work were syndicated features for the Kelmsley newspapers, through writer Conrad Frost's studio (Mercury Features). He drew the newspaper comic 'Leslie Shane' (1953-1955), and also the detective strip 'Jane Fortune', the western comic 'Rick Martin' and the glamor strips 'Sally Marsh' and 'Zoe Fair' throughout the 1950s. His 'Leslie Shane' strips also appeared in the 'Super Detective Library' by the Amalgamated Press, for which he also drew 'Rick Random' stories and stories for the girls' titles School Friend and Girls' Crystal.

From the 1960s until his retirement in 1993, Passingham worked for the girls' titles by DC Thomson, including Mandy, Bunty, Judy, Romeo and Diana. He also made an adaptation of the film 'Tobruk' for the Lion Summer Spectactular. He spent most of the 1970s and 1980s abroad, living at the French Riviera, Australia and Monte Carlo. He spent his final years painting watercolors in Chichester, Sussex.
