Gérald Poussin

'Papiers Gras'.

Swiss comic artist Gérald Poussin started his career drawing for animated films like 'Trou Attention' (1970), 'Colonel Zabu' (1970), 'Alphon Au Pays des Merveilles' (1972) and 'La Nuit des Ploucs' (1977). He later turned to creating comics and cartoons in Paris. He published his work in many French, German and Swiss magazines, including Hara-Kiri, Zinc, Charlie Mensuel, L'Écho des Savanes, Le Nouvel Observateur and Libération. Much of his stories for the French alternative magazines have been collected in books like 'Tendance Débile' (1979), 'Papiers Gras' (1981), 'Les Aventures de Buddy et Flappo' (1983) and 'Le Clan Cervelas' (1986). Poussin had his own short-lived magazine called Gonocoque in 1983.

In 1983, Poussin was one of many comic artists paying homage to the recently deceased Hergé in a special issue of (À Suivre), titled 'Adieu Hergé'. Together with 20 other comic artists (Zep, Ptiluc, Frank Margerin, Yslaire, Cosey, Philippe Vuillemin, Milo Manara, Loustal, Gilbert Shelton, Max Cabanes, Dupuy & Berberian, François Boucq, Thomas Ott, Frank Pé, Frank Le Gall, Riff Reb's, Eric Buche, Enrico Marini and Valott) he illustrated a record single for the project '20 Vraies Fausses Pochettes De Disque Par 20 Vrais Dessinateurs de BD' (1995). Poussin chose for a song by Najma-Najma.

Poussin uses a simple, almost child-like style, self-described in the preface of 'Buddy et Flappo': "Daring to talk about my drawings is insulting all the great artists around me." Today he lives in Carouge, near Geneva. Besides drawing cartoons, he writes plays and film scripts, designs clothes, furniture, jewelry, even carpets, as well as interiors. In 2004 he designed sets and costumes for 'Quiproquo', a stage play based on Rodolphe Töpffer's play of the same name, performed at the Théâtre de Carouge in Carouge, Switzerland.
