Invincible (2021) season 1 Reviews

Invincible will have you sucked in by the end of the first episode with great action set pieces, but will really hook you in with the human elements. Rest assured, this is so much more than just another superhero cartoon. No, this is humor, mystery, drama, romance and science fiction, all rolled up into one absolutely addictive treat.

Invincible recaptures what our current glut of superhero fiction largely loses sight of: the pleasure that superheroes must feel when wielding their powers. Not the sacred satisfaction of helping the downtrodden, but the id-centered thrills of soaring through the sky and inflicting hurt on those deemed deserving. The series consistently makes smart use of music and sound to sweep you up in the bodily sensations of its heroes.

If you don’t think that this is a 10 then you’re on crack. lol not actually but the amount of character development, plot twists, subversive elements, mystery, suspense, and tension that goes into this season is absolutely mind-boggling. The detail that goes into each scene is immaculate between Mark’s development as a hero that follows a typical superhero story path, and Nolan’s hidden inner, secretive world. And then it all comes together in the last 2 episodes into one of the best climaxes I’ve ever seen on TV. Watch this IMMEDIATELY if you haven’t yet. If you’re a superhero fan, you’ll love it. If you’re not a superhero fan (myself) you’ll LOVE it!

Spry, hourlong animated series that somehow manages to be both snarky and earnest within the same breath. ... What both anchors and keeps “Invincible” compelling is its cast, packed to the brim with talent.

This superhero show may play it a bit safer than The Boys, which won't help it stand out in the current landscape of superhero content, but for now, it works and should satisfy fans of the comic, even if it doesn't reinvent the wheel.

Amazon already has a searing satire about out-of-control superheroes, "The Boys," which has quickly become its signature series. "Invincible," an animated show with basically the same broad outline, thus feels a tad redundant, though the opening episodes, produced very much for adults, yield some of the same visceral thrills.

The series has a palpable “more of an eight-hour movie” thing going on, and the potential of that model is that it will all coalesce in the end into this glorious, big, transfixing story. But the pitfall is that it makes these opening episodes a little weaker; there are so many characters happening here, so many story threads to put in place, that it’s hard to know what to invest in as a viewer.

The voice cast is the easiest thing to praise about Invincible, which features J.K. Simmons as the gruff and irascible Omni-Man, Sandra Oh as Mark’s mom Debbie and Mark Hamill, Seth Rogen, Gillian Jacobs, Andrew Rannells, Zazie Beetz, Walton Goggins and Jason Mantzoukas in supporting roles. But their spirited turns can’t make up for the series’ fatally sluggish pacing — the result of stretching out what feels like a half-hour’s worth of material into 45 bloated minutes.

This series took the comic to the next level. It changes up so many things that make it so much better, with great emotion behind it. Its animation and performances are incredible, and its slow pace plays off fantastically.

It's a nice enough show, but the weekly episodic release is a significant hurdle. This is not how we watch TV anymore. It's not the 80s.

Recommended by a friend. I found it pretty trite and fairly shallow. Its just a mash up of different yet also readily identifiable things. Like the general concept is Justice League with a dash of DBZ but this also extends to the characters -whether they are primary cast like Invincible (Superboy with a dash of Peter Parker) or supporting like Damien Darkblood (Constantine/Hell Boy). Some initial attraction lies in the unexpected twists, but even those grow thin. Surprising the audience isn't difficult when you have total control over all the information, how you portray it, and when. For the very young there may be some novelty encountering story archs and themes they either won't recognize or care are derivative but I imagine for most adults this will be received as mediocre fare. It's just a cartoon. Nothing special. 5/5

Overall the show was good. The Omni Man twist is great and the main character doesn't have any major flaws in my opinion. My problem with the show is **** is a plague upon my eyes. I never knew I could hold so much hate for fictional character. I now very strongly dislike the voice actor now despite not knowing anything about her or her beliefs, that's how much I hate this character. The character all around is just so infuriating, The fact that she knew Mark was Invincible the whole time is just so **** stupid. I mean how the **** can she be pissed at Mark for no god damn reason. She was complaining about him not showing up to a DAMN SOUP KITCHEN! **** HE WAS SAVING THE WORLD!!! She's constant talking about make the world you want to live in and when he actually goes out and does that in a very huge way she gets **** that he wasn't at the **** SOUP KITCHEN! HE WAS GETTING HIS **** KICKED AND SHE WANTED TO GET MAD HE WAS WASN'T AT THAT **** SOUP!!! Whilst she was cooking for crackheads he was actually making a difference. Then when they're at the college and Mark leaves during the middle of a monster attack to suit up, she gets all teary eyed and starts crying saying he just ditched her. SHE KNEW AT THIS POINT!!! WHAT THE **** WERE THOSE TEARS FOR AIDEN!!! TELL ME WHAT THE **** WERE THEY FOR!?!?!?! Then she goes to party and nearly CHEATS! If that guy didn't mention his girlfriend she would've ****. And then when Mark gets around to revealing his secret identity to her all of sudden SHE GETS PISSED. Saying that he should've revealed to her earlier instead of lying, like **** ITS A SECRET IDENTITY he was trying to PROTECT YOU!!!! And she starts talking about how he made her feel unimportant, **** YOU AREN'T IMPORTANT!!! And then when Mark tells his friends about the situation they tell him he's in the wrong which makes dislike these characters that I previously enjoyed, HOW THE **** IS HE IN THE WRONG. I HATE THIS CHARACTER, I **** HATE HER!!! SHE NEEDS TO BE REMOVED OR KILLED OFF, I SWEAR TO GOD I WILL SEND DEATH THREATS UNTIL THIS CHARACTER VANISHES. #**** I **** HATE THIS **** FROM THE DARK COROSIVE BOTTOM I OF **** DAMN HEART, STICK TO THE SIDELINES HOE!!!!!!

Bizarre this gets such high marks. Kinda the same old crap with a Watchman/Boys derivation, except those shows actually had depth and pacing. I love Simmons, but can't help thinking his voice doesn't quite fit the antagonist; really wish I knew who else had been considered. would have loved to hear Nick Offerman's mustachioed voice beating the **** outta superheroes.
