2007

Juan suffered a left eye injury when he was struck by a foul ball on 8/31 vs. CIN while standing in the on-deck circle in the 6th inning and missed the remainder of the season. Aaron Miles was at-bat with Encarnacion on-deck readying to pinch hit for Randy Flores. He was taken to a local hospital where he was diagnosed with multiple fractures of his left eye socket and a serious eye injury. Had surgery on 9/20 to repair his left orbital wall and floor. Surgery was done by Dr. Aaron M. Fay of Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary: Department of Ophthalmology in Boston. Underwent surgery again on 1/22/08 for further reconstruction of the eye socket. Batted .315 (39-for-124) in 36 games at home (31 starts). Had .262 batting average on the road. Had seven-game run scoring streak (11 runs total) 5/30-6/6. The seven-game run streak was a team season high. Hit safely in 16 of his 21 July games (.356 BA, 11-R, 2-HR, 19-RBI).
