Prussian Colonels-in-Chief 1792-1806: Dragoon Regiments
Ten of the 14 Prussian dragoon regiments in 1806 were composed of five squadrons with a field-strength of 841 men. Regiment �Konigin� Nr. 5 and Regiment �Auer� Nr. 6 were �double-sized� units � 10 squadrons each � with 1,682 men.
On 14 October, the Duke of Brunswick-Luneburg-Wolfensbuttel, Generalleutnant von Ruchel and the Prince of Hohenlohe-Ingelfingen had only half of the available dragoon regiments (Regiments 1,2,3,4,5, and 11). The remainder was evenly-divided between the Duke of Wurttemberg's General Reserve and L�Estocq's [eastern] corps.
Little information has been found on the last two units �Regiment �Rouquette� Nr. 13 and Regiment �Wobeser� Nr. 14. These newly-created units may have still been in the process of organizing when the 1806 Campaign began.
In the wake of the Jena-Auerstadt disaster, the dragoon regiments were reorganized. The 2nd West Prussian Dragoon Regiment, for example, was formed from Regiment �Zeiten� Nr. 6 and the depot squadrons of Regiment �Herzberg� Nr. 9 and Regiment �Heyking� Nr. 10. It is interesting to note that after 1807, only the reorganized cuirassier and dragoon regiments were authorized to carry standards.
In 1806, Dragoon Regiment �Konig von Bayern� Nr. 1 was attached to Saxe-Weimar's Advanced Guard detachment.
