Involucrin expression (solid circles) and pimonidazole binding (open circles) in moderately differentiated SCC9 cells growing in confluent culture in the presence of 1.0 mM calcium ion. The increase in involucrin expression more or less parallels that for pimonidazole binding. The involucrin data are similar to those reported by others (Rice et al, 1988).
