TWA
COMPANY Founded 1925 as Western Air Express. Merged with Transcontinental Air Transport in 1930, becoming Transcontinental and Western Air, and nicknamed TWA. Owned for decades by reclusive billionaire Howard Hughes, who changed the company's name to Trans-World Airways.
