Operator of Spanish language radio stations. Originally founded in 1949 by McHenry Taylor Tichenor (b. 1897, d. 1996) as Tichenor Media System, Inc., the company had bought up 20 regional radio stations by 1996. In 1997 Tichenor Media merged with Las Vegas-based Heftel Broadcasting, the largest owner-operator of hispanic radio stations in the country, and by 1999 had changed its name to Hispanic Broadcasting Corporation. By 2002, HBC owned 62 stations in 15 different markets. In 2003 HBC was purchased by Univision for $3.5B, becoming Univision Radio.
