EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION Founded 1865 as the Maine College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts, changed name to Maine College opened in 1868, and to the University of Maine in 1897. It is the main campus of the University of Maine, and is often referred to as just "University of Maine."
