Set at the tail end of the Great Depression, inventor/schemer Rims Rosson concocts a plan to turn hemp into silk, by way of Manila. Before he can fully set it into motion, his honey, Bobby Halevy, tricks him into marriage well before they have the financial wherewithal to do so. Almost-comedy starring a miscast John Garfield, laced with occasional melancholy.
