Keywords: Drama
Film adaptation of the Ian McEwan novel of the same name follows a writer as she inadvertently alters the lives of several individuals by falsely accusing her sister's beau of a heinous act.
ABSTRACT
Briony Tallis, a thirteen-year old girl with a promising future as a writer, misinterprets a scene between older sister Cecilia and lover Robbie Turner outside her family's estate as one of ill intent, telling a careless fib implicating Robbie -- a "commoner" working for the Tallis family intending to go to medical school -- in the rape of cousin Lola and forever changing the lives of all involved. Atonement is a character piece depicting how lies can alter the course of one's existence, turning Briony's family paranoid and setting the unfortunate Robbie on a course towards serving in the British Army during World War II.
