Hard-drinking loutish cop Jack Gates very reluctantly takes temporary custody of Reggie Hammond (who still has 6 months remaining on his prison term) for 48 hours to track down a pair of cop killers. Everyone is after the proceeds of their last job together, though Gates doesn't realize this at first. Film debut of Eddie Murphy. A quintessential cop-buddy movie, amazing chemistry between Murphy and Nick Nolte.
