REVIEWS
Review by anonymous (posted on 8-Jul-2006)
Tedious dialogue with an impossible task given to Christian Bale, to make boring and cliched lines sound vital and fresh. What an apology to Japan, too. I was enraged throughout the movie with Steves constant even handed way of looking at the war and its players in it. What is to admire of a race of people who invade and bayonnet 100,000 civilians? How about a simple portrayal as the people they were? Imperial bastards who tried to take over the world and were stopped by the ever stomped on white christian males of the U>S> Stevew heavy handed symbolism and way of moviemaking back then would surely make him cringe now. I do and I dont know anything about directing a feature film. A big and ambitous project, done with mixed and boring results. I was five lines ahead of the film for three hours. And Joe Pantalonio, good Lord. A human cartoon. Acting lesssons!
