Adapted from a true-life memoir by Beverly Denofrio, Riding in Cars with Boys focuses on the author's dramatized life story of dreams deferred due to an unplanned pregnancy and the ensuing consequences, following young Beverly through from promising roots in working-class Connecticut to an unplanned pregnancy with eighteen-year old high school classmate Ray, an unfortunate episode leading to a tortured marriage plagued by the young man's all-consuming heroin addiction.
