King of Kings (11-Oct-1961)
Director: Nicholas Ray Writer: Philip Yordan Music by: Miklos Rozsa Producer: Samuel Bronston The life of Jesus Christ and his times. Liberties are of course taken in the story, and a surprisingly large percentage of the film is devoted to side-stories not involving Christ. Good cinematography and score, solid performances from the cast, and with uncredited narration by Orson Welles. While filmed with lesser-named actors (a Jesus with blue eyes who might even pass as a surfer), it is a fine film and significantly better effort than The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965). This is by far one of the best, if not the best, portrayals of the life and death of Christ. I could watch this every day & still cry each time I see it. Jeffrey Hunter, to my mind, portrayed Jesus as no other actor could. I know you cannot respond to individual emails, but whatever happened to the actress who played Salome (Brigid Bazlin - I think that's how you spell it)? She requested the head of John the Baptist on a silver platter! Thanks! Cathy Lowry

I can't believe no one has written to tell you of this masterpiece. What a wonderful and telling movie. An epic by anyone's standards. The acting was wonderful, the scenery seemed very accurate and the story, well, the story of Christ. If you have a chance to see this movie [that will no doubt go down in history] by all means, take it in. It's 'that' good. I have several favorite movies in my lifetime and King of Kings is one of them.
Do you know something we don't?
