ABSTRACT
Jack Starks, a Gulf War veteran who somehow managed to survive a bullet to the head, returns home to Vermont in 1992 with a nasty case of amnesia, helping a young girl and her alcoholic mother repair their broken-down truck as he walks along a highway. An ill-fated encounter with a man who kills a policeman after picking him up while hitchhiking leaves Jack confined to a mental institution for the criminally insane, forced to undergo prison experiments confined to a straitjacket that enables him to travel through time; seeing a vision of his future death, Jack must now somehow act to alter his destiny.
