The Illusionist
Director: Neil Burger
Writers: Steven Millhauser; Neil Burger
A top-flight magician uses his talents and charm to shake up a rigid Viennan society at the turn of the twentieth century.
ABSTRACT
Eisenheim, a renowned illusionist and "commoner" living in early-1900s Vienna, uses his wit and charm during one of his numerous well-regarded performances to reunite with the Duchess von Teschen, a beautiful young woman and member of Austro-Hungarian royalty who'd been torn from him as a teenager due to their class differences. Displaying an evident reciprocated continued love for her in spite of her plans to wed the Crown Prince Leopold as part of a loveless power play, Eisenheim schemes to break their bond apart, doing so despite the Empire royalty's willingness to use as much force as needed to accomplish their desired objectives.
