REVIEWS

Review by Lisa Selby (posted on 13-Nov-2010)

This is a fantastic movie. It has drama, music and special effects of the 1906 Earthquake which are fantastic. Jeanette McDonald is perfect as Mary Blake, a woman who comes to San Francisco to sing in operas. Clark Gable is as charming as usual, as the rougue Blackie Norton, who owns the Paradise Cafe in the Barbary Coast section of the city. Spencer Tracy is Father Mullin, a boyhood friend of Blackie's who went straight. This is about having faith and doing the right things with romance in the mix. And with Clark Gable in the film you can't go wrong with the romance. It is a movie well worth watching more than once.
