Executive summary: Creator of the "LO/VE" sculpture
Adopted the name Indiana to not "endure the pangs of his actual identity". Worked with Andy Warhol to create the film Eat, at twenty-foot sign of which was featured prominently in the New York State Pavillion at the 1964 World's Fair. He is best known for the heavily reproduced pop-art LO/VE image, with the tilted O, issued in purple by the US Postal Service in 1973. His art questions identity and its place in America. He is the feature of a retrospective, Love and the American Dream: The Art of Robert Indiana.
