Born in Pennsylvania, grew up on Ohio, and did not move to Kansas until he was seventeen. Worked on Progressive Party Theodore Roosevelt's 1912 Presidential campaign. Governor of Kansas 1933-7, in fact the only Republican elected as Governor in 1932. Landon became the Republican candidate for President in 1936, trounced by Franklin D. Roosevelt -- Landon was only able to carry Maine and Vermont, making it the biggest landslide since 1820.
