Matthew Lillard
AKA Matthew Lyn Lillard
Born: 24-Jan-1970
Birthplace: Lansing, MI
Gender: Male
Race or Ethnicity: White
Sexual orientation: Straight
Occupation: Actor
Nationality: United States
Executive summary: Scream, Scooby-Doo, SLC Punk
Growing up, he was fat, and had braces and a slight learning disability. To prepare for a career in sales, his father made Lillard choose between typing lessons or acting class. Lillard chose acting, and liked it. He subsequently studied drama at New York's Circle in the Square theater, and co-founded the Summoner's Ensemble theater group.
He hosted the Nickelodeon skateboarding show SK8-TV, and did acceptable work in abysmal movies like Ghoulies 3: Ghoulies Go to College (1991). His first widely successful film was Scream (1996), where he played a wisecracking geek. His best film, by far, is the punk rock comedy SLC Punk (1999), though Lillard is likely better known as the stoner Shaggy in the Scooby Doo movies. Perhaps sadly, the success of Scream and Scooby Doo, along with Lillard's baby face, have left him typecast as a geeky teen or college kid well into his 30s.
