Olympedia – Robert Blum

Robert Blum graduated from Trinity College in 1950, and later attended law school at Columbia University. In the 1960s he served as an assistant to the Mayor of New York City. He practiced law for over 50 years, and just prior to his retirement, was a New York Assistant Attorney General under Governor Andrew Cuomo.

In fencing Blum was the first American to make the finals at a World Championships in sabre, doing so in 1958. He was a 10-time US champion in sabre, competing for Salle Santelli and then the Fencers Club of New York. Blum won a gold medal in team sabre at the 1959 Pan American Games. He later officiated fencing nationally and internationally from the late 1950s into the 1980s.
