Olympedia – André Willms

German rower André Willms was a four-time Olympian from 1992-2004, winning two gold medals (1992-96) and a bronze (2000) with the quadruple sculls. In 2004, the crew finished fifth. He was awarded Germany’s highest sports award, the Silver Bay Leaf, in 1992. At World Championships, Willms won five gold medals, two silvers and a bronze.

Willms’ son Philipp-André Syring also became an internationally successful rower. André Willms was later employed by the municipality of Magdeburg and was responsible for the municipal department for schools and sports.
