Olympedia – Andrej Tiwontschik

Russian-born, and of Belarus descent, German pole vaulter Andrej Tiwontschik won the bronze medal at the 1995 World Indoor Championships, and also won bronze at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He won the German Championships indoor and outdoor in 1995. Tiwontschik was Belarus Champion in 1992 before emigrating to Germany in 1993.

Tiwontschik later became a pole vault coach and was national chief coach in Qatar until 2008 when he became chief national coach of the German women’s team. In 2018, he took over the German men’s team. Tiwontschik was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award.
