Critics Consensus

Loro uses the larger-than-life exploits of an infamous public figure to present a messily compelling snapshot of how power attracts -- and corrupts.

Tim Cogshell FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) Paolo [Sorrentino]'s films are full of beauty and decadence... In this particular instance, the decadence owes to this actual man who was actually decadent. Oct 4, 2019 Full Review Robert Abele Los Angeles Times This sometimes beguiling but more often strangely engineered movie continues, stretching its increasingly muddy soup of gleaming nastiness and gaudy power plays until even the central portrait of the man himself is more cartoonish than corrosive. Sep 26, 2019 Full Review Ann Hornaday Washington Post For all of Sorrentino's prodigious gifts as a scenarist, "Loro" is a disturbing movie, for all the wrong reasons and, despite its self-consciously arty pretensions, a breathtakingly callow one. Rated: 1/4 Sep 24, 2019 Full Review Víctor López G. Espinof Paolo Sorrentino gives a new master class on how to use the cinematographic medium as a tool to protest and criticize... [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 4.75/5 Aug 23, 2023 Full Review Emiliano Basile EscribiendoCine ... A unique sensorial experience with enthralling imagery and an alluring strange aura surrounding its main character. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 9/10 Jun 12, 2023 Full Review Carla Monfort Espinof A cynical yet fascinating portrait, Loro captivates at times with its mix of reality and interpretation of it... Alec B Despite the endless debauchery Sorrentino understands that at his core, Berlusconi is nothing more than a void. The film's ending is appropriately depressing. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/24 Full Review Audience Member Digging Sorrentino's hyper stylish presentation it was never going to be difficult to please me aesthetically here, however the plot definitely lacked focus at times, feeling more like a series of snapshots than a continuous story. Loro definitely provided a unique exploration of how power, and the way one wields it, can attract certain people while repelling others. I'll leave the low hanging fruit be and refrain from pointing out all the parallels on display with this character and some of our current world leaders. 7.5/10 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member I found it an empty, useless and too long movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Despite the endless debauchery Sorrentino understands that at his core, Berlusconi is nothing more than a void. The film's ending is appropriately depressing. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Brilliant (double) acting by Toni Servillo, and Paolo Sorrentino's strong images, caricatures and colours are reminiscent of Almodóvar. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Brilliant biting satire with another great performance from Toni Servillo as the corrupt perma tanned hair weaved Silvio Berlusconi. The film is long but the script and the sharpness of Palo Sorrentino as a director make it a rewarding experience and Toni Servillo is one of the greatest actors in European cinema .
