The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies | Rotten Tomatoes

Though somewhat overwhelmed by its own spectacle, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies ends Peter Jackson's second Middle-earth trilogy on a reasonably satisfying note.

If only it had been part of the Guilermo Del Toro duology. Ah well. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/21/25 Full Review Turner M It's pretty solid but it's not as good as Desolation but better than An Unexpected Journey. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/25 Full Review Audience Member WORST MOVIE EVER MADE, KILI DIED NO POINT WATCHING IT Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/07/25 Full Review matthias s **The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies** feels like a visual banquet served with a side of disappointment. As a die-hard fan of Middle-earth, I adored seeing familiar faces—Ian McKellen as Gandalf is pure magic, and Martin Freeman brings so much charm as Bilbo. The landscapes are breathtaking, the soundtrack hits all the right notes, and Peter Jackson’s direction is undeniably spot-on for this world. But… why does Smaug’s fiery reign end in the first five minutes? Talk about anticlimactic. Then there’s the battle, which drags on forever with mediocre CGI that pales in comparison to *The Lord of the Rings*. The playful, whimsical tone of the book is swapped for an overly serious vibe, which feels out of place. It’s not terrible—just the weakest of the saga. Visually stunning? Yes. Memorable? Not so much. A decent watch, but I wish they’d done it justice. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/25 Full Review Read all reviews
