Critics Consensus

Despite ample charm and a few solid gags, The Lego Ninjago Movie suggests this franchise's formula isn't clicking like it used to.

Wendy Ide Observer (UK) Very silly, very funny and particularly recommended for fans of hokey chopsocky films and kittens. Rated: 4/5 Oct 15, 2017 Full Review Tara Brady Irish Times Lego Ninjago, conversely, can't sustain its central joke over an overlong 101 minutes. Everything is not quite awesome. Rated: 3/5 Oct 13, 2017 Full Review Ed Potton Times (UK) Just as Toy Story did by featuring an owner of the toys, it reminds us that these films are about play and imagination. Yes, they're also effectively feature-length adverts for Lego, but this is rampant capitalism at its most arch and entertaining. Rated: 4/5 Oct 12, 2017 Full Review Paul McGuire Grimes KSTP-TV (St. Paul, MN) Easy entertainment for the kids even if it's not as original as the others... Rated: 2.5/5 Nov 5, 2020 Full Review Leigh Monson Substream Magazine There is still a lot of the old LEGO charm floating around... Rated: 3/5 Oct 1, 2020 Full Review Steven Prokopy Third Coast Review When I say this is my least favorite of the three Lego animated films, I don't mean that as an insult... In fact, The LEGO Ninjago Movie is still quite spirited, funny, and fully enjoyable. May 13, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Dave Great fun to watch! Lord Gramadon stole the show!! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/08/24 Full Review Alexander S As the LEGO movie franchise continues its success, The LEGO Ninjago movie sadly lost the plot and direction in an attempt on giving the LEGO Ninjago toy line its own Phil Lord/Chris Miller spin. It’s only a hit or miss for fans of the series. Grading: C+ Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/25 Full Review Billy R This movie is hilarious. I don't know why critics are calling the tone "disjointed," it can be funny while still having mature themes, that's every lego movie ever. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/15/25 Full Review Parker A Why does this exist? Who gave this the green light? Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/25 Full Review Davey C I loved how it stayed in the lure of Ninjago after the movie i still wish they would have made at least a sequel with another villain and at the ending of that another ninja reveal's themself but they don't have the rights to lego movies anymore so that sequel is more ideal now. If i was 14 still I think it would have a little better rating because i loved Ninjago back then but right now when I'm 21 it's Ok but not really my favorite. This is another re-review this is just my opinion as an adult but probably not my last. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/26/24 Full Review Audience Member I have a lot to say about this movie, i will try to keep it short. to anyone who didn’t know the lore, the story and characters make little to no sense, while anyone who does know the lore will be disappointed that it diverges so far in every aspect, making this movie look unrecognizable in comparison to the franchise, being most disappointed by the potential this movie had. this movie may have been the worst of the 4 lego movies, but the bay is so high that this still manages to be ridiculously funny as well with good dialogue, great line delivery, and a touching(but slightly fragile), mostly coherent story. 7/10 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/27/24 Full Review Read all reviews

Led by Master Wu, as wise-cracking as he is wise, they must defeat the evil warlord Garmadon, who also happens to be Lloyd's dad.
