This time, I wanted to see if I had missed something in Moore's performance the first go round. I knew she was good, but was she THAT good? My opinion hasn't changed. Demi's very good performance is, in my opinion, not Oscar worthy, but is being pushed for other Hollywood reasons. I enjoyed the film as much the second go round. 2 hours and 20 minutes flies by. That said, I was blown away by this and loved the questions it posed regarding the perception of beauty, stardom, celebrity, and how society shapes those things. The acting is great, I really enjoyed the directing and noticed several homages throughout. The camera work and audio both added quite a bit to the feel of the movie. However, as many other reviews have mentioned, the last 30 minutes or so I did not enjoy. One review that it helped me see this ending in a different light mentioned that it is the director’s attempt to make the audience uncomfortable with the impact we have in perpetuating beauty and celebrity stereotypes. In retrospect, I do believe that is what the director intended, I just feel it was heavy handed and could have been done with more subtlety.
