Critics Consensus

Utterly bereft of romance or humor, 'Til There Was You is a singularly misguided attempt at romantic comedy.

John Petrakis Chicago Tribune I had mixed feelings about the slow ride, but one thing is certain: This film could have been a lot stronger if it was a lot simpler. Rated: 2.5/4 May 5, 2014 Full Review Jami Bernard New York Daily News It tries for fizzy, but there's hardly a bubble in it. Rated: 2/4 May 5, 2014 Full Review Peter Travers Rolling Stone When will someone realize that sexy Sarah Jessica Parker is pure comic gold and start writing movies that give her a chance to glisten? She's the only spice in this too-sweet romantic comedy. May 5, 2014 Full Review Mal Vincent The Virginian-Pilot [It] has some very bright, witty, even sharp, moments, but for the most part, it is inflicted with too much plot and not enough emotion. Rated: 2.5/4 Mar 2, 2022 Full Review Michael Ollove Baltimore Sun Very little is amusing in all of this; the lighting is murky, the sound is mumbly, and will someone please tell the piano player to knock it off? Rated: 1/4 May 5, 2014 Full Review Leah Rozen People Magazine Its stars, young, sexy performers all, deserve a better vehicle. May 5, 2014 Full Review Read all reviews

steve d If you make a romantic comedy and forget the romance and comedy did you even make a movie? Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This was a sweet love story. Tripplehorn and McDermott were great in their roles, but it would have been nice if they had a few more minutes on screen together. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm not sure what this film was trying to do, but it did't do it. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member very cute movie. don't know why so many people say this movie sucks, but i just now saw it for the first time and it's actually a very wonderful flick. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member unique romance, definatly a must see Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews

Synopsis Gwen Moss (Jeanne Tripplehorn), a writer hired to pen a book about former child star Francesca Lanfield (Sarah Jessica Parker), moves to the apartment complex that the actress owns. While Gwen struggles with her love life or lack thereof, Francesca becomes involved with handsome architect Nick Dawkan (Dylan McDermott), who is working on a project that will mean the destruction of the apartments. Eventually, Gwen and Nick meet, and there's an undeniable chemistry, despite their differences.
