Critics Consensus

Though predictable and somewhat dramatically underwhelming, Trouble with the Curve benefits from Clint Eastwood's grizzled charisma and his easy chemistry with a charming Amy Adams.

Tom Charity CNN.com For all its occasional tin ear, Dr Phil dialogue, its contrivances and shortcuts, this remains a fundamentally sound and solid entertainment with a deep-rooted conviction that how we treat each other matters. May 12, 2014 Full Review John Wildman Film Comment Magazine The good news is that Eastwood does his thing to perfection, Adams provides the spunky cuteness, and Timberlake couldn't scrub his eager charm off with a Brillo pad if he tried. May 12, 2014 Full Review Anthony Quinn Independent (UK) John Goodman weighs in with a nice cameo as Clint's old boss, but the rest is strictly relegation form. Rated: 2/5 May 12, 2014 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson "Trouble with the Curve" is good fall entertainment for those who aren't looking for a big challenge and like old-school baseball over the statistic-heavy "Moneyball." Rated: 3/5 Sep 4, 2023 Full Review Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies Trouble with the Curve might not have the same movie magic as Moneyball but Clint Eastwood, Amy Adams, and Justin Timberlake help make it a charmer and capture the dynamic of a changing game. Rated: 4/5 Dec 28, 2022 Full Review Cory Woodroof Lumination Network The saccharine melodrama waned on me as those minutes passed by, hoping that this film didn't end up going into extra innings. NASHVILLE I It's pretty desperate. It wants to be a Hallmark movie disguised as an underdog story a la Rudy, but the writers never watched a baseball game. If they had, they'd know how players swing a baseball bat. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/15/24 Full Review James B a great romantic comedy and a great baseball movie at the same time clint eastwiid justin timberlake and amy adams are great in this good plot and very interesting good ending defiently worth a watch Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/29/24 Full Review Brian H Come along for the ride through the bus leagues and high school ball watching life of a MLB scout. And get to watch the real equation of how and why dads and daughters can go so wrong. I very well done film with deep performances by Clint Eastwood and Amy Adams, and a disturbingly well done job by Mathew Lillard as the charming yet conniving "other guy". Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/12/24 Full Review Paul M I like Amy Adam's and Clint Eastwood, but this was poorly directed and produced. Easy to read and predictable plot. Seemed to be outdated and more worthy of a 70's movie Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/22/24 Full Review Sean S With the great actors in this movie I expected much much more. I still enjoyed the movie but just had higher expectations for it. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/24 Full Review Shay W It's just a really nice movie. Clint with his spot on dead pan humour, and Amy Adams exudes endless charm. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
