Critics Consensus

It may not entirely do its source material justice, but Miguel Arteta's Youth in Revolt is a fun, funny comic romp that lets Michael Cera stretch a little and introduces filmgoers to a major find in Portia Doubleday.

Caryn James Marie Claire But all the silliness reminds us that there is no age limit on expressing your confident inner vixen - especially in these uneasy times. [Full review in Spanish] Oct 19, 2022 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins As if written specifically for Cera, the dialogue and screenplay are particularly seductive, enticing with bitingly sarcastic poetry and linguistically adept observations. Haven P really good movie and the acting was great and not only really funny as well must watch!!!!!!! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/18/25 Full Review Horror fan 4 What a funny movie. Cera leads an all star cast in this delightful 90 minute film. The characters and story were great. This is what we need more of. 90 minute movies. Tim Treakle Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/16/24 Full Review Aaron M I love this movie. I think this is Michael Cera's best work. The dialogue is sharp and witty and the cast is great! I laughed throughout this whole movie!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/04/24 Full Review Kyle M Michael Cera mustered the source material's signature humor through his own amidst utter, self-contradicting ridicule that's fantastically unrealistic with unlikable characters. (B-) Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/14/24 Full Review Honest D I'm surprised at the low score on here. This movie is great. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/19/24 Full Review Gareth v A movie that comes across as a vechile for Cera to cut loose and show us he's more than a timid nerd. One he does for the most part. It's just a shame that the script is so uneven. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews

Synopsis As a fan of Albert Camus and Jean-Luc Godard, teenage Nick Twisp (Michael Cera) is definitely out of his element when his mother and her boyfriend move the family to a trailer park. When a pretty neighbor named Sheeni (Portia Doubleday) plays records by French crooners, it's love at first sight for frustrated and inexperienced Nick. Learning that she is dating someone, Nick launches a hilarious quest to find his way into Sheeni's heart -- and bed.
