The young smoke most in Finnmark

Fewer people smoke and more people use snuff in all regions. Finnmark has the most smokers, with 2 out of 10 smoking daily in 2015. In this region, young people smoke more than older people - in the rest of the country young people are smoking less than before.
Thirty-one per cent of the population used tobacco in 2015, with 13 per cent smoking daily. The decline in daily smoking has been significant. The decline in the overall use of tobacco is less due to a simultaneous increase in daily snuff use.
Finnmark has the highest proportion of smokers
Finnmark has the most smokers. In the period 2012 to 2015, 19 per cent smoked daily in this region, and 9 per cent smoked occasionally. There are also many smokers in Østfold, Hedmark, Telemark and Rogaland. Oslo has the fewest smokers. In this region, 11 per cent said they smoked daily. Older people (45-74 years) are the most frequent smokers in most regions but the young smoke the most in Telemark and Finnmark.
Increased use of snuff in all regions
The use of snuff is increasing in all regions, and people in Sør-Trøndelag, Nord-Trøndelag and Nordland smoke the most.
