When the National University of Singapore (NUS) renamed the Angsana residential college in University Town the College of Alice and Peter Tan in 2013, it raised eyebrows over whether an entire college should be named after an "unknown" couple.
NUS declined to say much about the Tans or the sum they had donated even as the debate raged.
