DVD Rentals - Made to Order
September 29th, 2008
There were almost as many new releases to reach the top 30 on the rental charts as there were on the sales chart this week, but there were some key differences, including the top spot. The number one rental of the week was Made of Honor, which generated about 20% more revenue than Speed Racer.

DVD Releases for September 16, 2008 - Part I
September 15th, 2008
We have a big list this week with more than 50 releases. This includes very few top-notch, first run releases, but that weakness is counterbalanced by the strength in the TV on DVD department, including a few contenders for DVD Pick of the Week like Duckman - Season One & Two and Pushing Daisies - Season One on DVD or Blu-ray. If I were to choose just one release this week, it would be the former; however, I think the latter has a better chance at mainstream appeal. As I previously said, this is a huge list this week, so much so that it had to be split into two parts. Part two can be found here.

Kit Still Making News on the Per Theater Chart
July 1st, 2008
Kit Kittredge: An American Girl repeated on top of the per theater chart this week, pulling in close to $110,000 in 5 theaters for an average of $21,404. However, that was more than 50% less that its opening weekend average, which is a sharp drop-off for a limited release. The Last Mistress opened in second place with an average of $16,777 in two theaters. Two wide releases were neck-and-neck with Wanted earning an average of $16,040 and WALL-E right behind with $15,803.

Movie Website Reviews for Weekend of June 27, 2008
June 28th, 2008
Strange week for movie sites as both wide releases could have won the weekly website award. However, of the seven limited releases, most didn't even have full sites. The best of the week was WALL-E - Official Site, while an honorable mention goes to Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, which released its teaser trailer this week.

#1 Limited Release
June 27th, 2008
Not a lot in terms of limited releases this week, especially when it comes to high quality releases. While 60% positive reviews are considered overall positive, it generally takes 80% positive reviews for a limited release to thrive. This week, there are no limited releases to reach that level (although a couple come close and could reach that mark as more reviews come in). This makes it difficult to see which, if any of these films will break out.
