This August 11 photo shows law enforcers bringing out Adilur Rahman Khan, secretary of rights watchdog Odhikar, from a court in the capital.
The High Court (HC) directed the jail authorities Monday to provide Adilur Rahman Khan, secretary of rights organisation Adhikar, with division facilities in prison.
An HC bench comprising Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Zafar Ahmed came up with the order after hearing a writ petition filed by Khan's wife, Dr Saira Rahman Khan.
Following the order, the rights activist will get a separate room, a bed, a table, chair and other facilities in the prison as per the jail code, the court said.
Khan is now in Kashimpur jail in Gazipur.
Saira filed the petition Monday seeking direction on the jail authorities to provide Khan with division facilities considering his education, social status and living standard as per the jail code.
Khan was arrested on August 10 in a case filed under the Information Technology and Communication Act-2006 for publishing a “false report” on the crackdown on Hefajat-e Islam in the capital’s Motijheel area on May 5.
The report published on Odhikar website claimed that 61 people were killed during the crackdown.
On May 5, law enforcers flushed out several thousand Hefajat activists who took to the street and resorted to mayhem following a Dhaka seize programme.
