The Professional Footballers' Association has announced the nominees for this year's Players' Player and Young Player of the Year awards.

There are a number homegrown players in contention, with the Tottenham winger Gareth Bale nominated in both categories and West Ham's Scott Parker and Charlie Adam of Blackpool competing with him for the main prize. The England and Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart and Arsenal's Jack Wilshere are nominated for the young player award.

In all there are seven nominees in each category with the Arsenal playmaker Samir Nasri also in contention for both. Bale's Spurs team-mate Rafael van der Vaart is nominated for player of the year, as is Manchester City's Carlos Tevez and the Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic.

Everton's Seamus Coleman and the Manchester United pair of Nani and Javier Hernández make up the young player list.

The PFA's chief executive, Gordon Taylor, said: "This year there are some very good contenders and it is nice to see some homegrown players in there as well. That is encouraging. We are the most cosmopolitan league in the world but I would feel a little sad if all the nominations were for players from abroad.

"There is a lovely blend there which says what is good about football in this country. It is a blend of some of the best in the world – senior players with some up-and-coming youngsters that have come through our development programme."
