Audio major Sa Re Ga Ma (previously HMV) has brought out the album ‘Trinity', with popular songs of three yesteryear stars of Tamil cinema — MGR, Sivaji Ganesan and Gemini Ganesan. At the release, heirs of the stars were called on to the dais — Ramkumar (Sivaji Ganesan), Kamala Selvaraj (Gemini Ganesan) and MGR's ‘art world heir' director-actor K. Bhagyaraj. The occasion also witnessed the presence of the musician who's given evergreen melodies — M.S. Viswanathan. On the occasion, Bhagyaraj said it was a wonderful tribute to the doyens of Tamil cinema.

“Both MGR and Sivaji Ganesan had many fans. But, Gemini Ganesan was young girls' heart-throb. I should know — I come from a family where I was the only male. And, it was then that I realised how important women fans were for a film's success!” he said.

The bond continues…

The relationship between Kannadasan and the Tamil film industry is sure to continue for a long while! The latest from the poet's family to enter filmdom is Aadav Kannadasan. Aadav was an assistant director to G.N.R. Kumaravel in “Uvan Uvathi”, but now he'll don the greasepaint for “Ponmalai Pozhudhu”, directed by A.C. Durai for AG Creations. “My father Kalaivanan Kannadasan (who's directed four films) was an assistant to G.N. Rangarajan, and I was, to his son G.N.R. Kumaravel!” When he decided to sign for films, Aadav took up dance lessons from Jayanthi master and stunt lessons from Pandian. “I also learnt under Vijayan of Koothu-p-pattarai. ‘Ponmalai Pozhudhu' has given me ample scope to show my talent,” he says.

Son takes over

Writer Balakumaran is popular for his scripts for many Tamil films. Now his son Suryaa has come out with a short film — “Kadhalikka Neramillai”. “Poverty is not the only problem for today's youth; there are so many others. The film shows the struggle of a young man who has money. It revolves around two young men and a girl. One man is in love with her, and another helps him. How help turns into a problem forms the rest of the story.” The cast includes Praveen, Sarath and Priya. The screenplay and dialogues too are by Suryaa Balakumaran.
