The University of Bayreuth turns 50! What began with just 632 students and 22 professors across three departments has grown into a globally connected research institution with nearly 12,000 students, 190 degree programmes, seven faculties, 281 professors, and 1,350 additional researchers.

Silver Medal for Young Physicists

A team from the TAO Student Research Centre (SFZ) at the University of Bayreuth has won the silver medal at the German Young Physicists’ Tournament (GYPT). The team's research was supervised by Prof. Dr. Walter Zimmermann, a physics professor at the University of Bayreuth, along with his team at the SFZ.

Entrepreneurship

First place in start-up support ranking

The University of Bayreuth has been ranked first among Germany’s mid-sized institutions in the latest ranking of the most entrepreneurial higher education institutions (Gründungsradar 2025 conducted by the Stifterverband). The university had placed in the top group for the past several years. This marks a success story that has been consistently supported by Germany’s federal government, the State of Bavaria, and the University Governing Board since 2014.
